INTODUCTION

The September 2008 PERF workshop was hosted by Chevron at The Doubletree hotel in Berkeley, California.
About 50 people attended the meeting. Most of them were representatives from the oil industry, but also some consulting firm and laboratories. They all shared technical perspectives and experience for methodology in remediation lead by Chevron's presentation on their topical research:

  • Source characterization tools
  • In-Situ Chemical Oxidation: liquid reagentsand ozone sparging
  • Innovative tools to monitor remediation processes
  • Soil Remediation .

The meeting was preceded by a PERF Board meeting were was defined the future PERF meeting for 2009 and finalised the Biofuels meeting in Philadelphie in November 2008.
Todd Ririe, PERF chairman, and Larry Goodheart, Chevron, introduced the first day by explaining the purpose of this meeting. As an "hybrid" meeting, Todd presented what is and isn't PERF, hoping that discussions woul lead to PERF project proposal. The following presentations dealt with Mass Transfert Limitation by Dr. Paul Johnson from ASU, In Situ Chemical Oxidation as liquid reagents and ozone sparging. This last topic lead to a long discussion among the participants.
The second day was shared in two topics. The mornig was dedicated to Innovative tools to Monitor Remediation Processes and the afternoon to Soil Remediation.
The end of the 2nd day was saved to discuss about what topic ould lead to a pre-poposal where interested company could discuss to present a projet to the next PERF meeting. Further discussion are needed after this meeting but attendees showed interest in following up.
