76th PERF meeting : ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES OF HEAVY CRUDE OILS

INTODUCTION

The Fall 2007 PERF Meeting was hosted by Conocophillips Bartlesville Technology Center in Bartlesville, OK. The theme was "Environmental Challenges of Heavy Crude Oils" with focus on industry applications for air, water, solids, and remediation. More than 70 people attended the meeting from all over the world. Most of them were representatives from the oil industry, consulting firms, research institutes or laboratories.

The Board of directors met on October 16 right after the Research Manager Discussion Group meeting. The technical meeting started on October 17 with a morning and early afternoon technical session at theConocophillips Bartlesville Technology Center. On October 18, there were additional technical presentations and a roundtable discussion with several experts on the panel. Business items (status report and project proposals) took place on October 17 as well. The meeting finished on a special luncheon presenting the environmental issues related to North American oil shale, oil sands and heavy oil resource development (project funded by DOE).

PANEL SESSION

The roundtable discussion group was led by John Wilkinson, Exxonmobil and Thomasin Miller, Conocophillips .

The objective of this panel discussion was to bring out the emerging issues associated with the meeting theme of Environmental Challenges of Heavy Oils: what are the technologies needed, what things are currently in progress, where are the gaps, etc. Eight experts took place behing the table and answered several questions.

 

RESEARCH MANAGER DISCUSSION GROUP

The Research Manager Discussion Group was chaired by Larry Goodheart, Chevron ETC. Several managers and the PERF Board of Directors attended the meeting.

 

PROJECT PROPOSALS

There were no real "new" proposals. The 2006-01 has been represented with more detailed scope than last year and an update of the status of 2007-05 and 2007-06 were given.
