Performance Evaluation of In Situ Chemical Oxidation of Petroleum Impacts in Groundwater

Sponsor:  ExxonMobil
Contacts: Scott Bushroe (scott.bushroe@exxonmobil.com) Chad Shockley  (chad.e.shockley@exxonmobil.com)
Project Type:  SHARING
Objectives:
Improve the understanding of in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) for the remediation of petroleum source areas and dissolved phased plumes by investigating the fundamental processes (chemical, biological and physical) of the technology through focused laboratory/field research as well as empirical data review.
Capture lessons learned on the criteria for site selection, design, execution, monitoring and evaluation of ISCO applications in Best Practices or Guidance Document

Contributions:
The PERF project will consist of in-kind contributions from each PERF member and associate organizations participating in the project. The value and sufficiency of each in-kind contribution for meeting overall project objectives and deliverables is based on concurrence from all participating organizations. The contributions consist of the following categories:
Sharing of raw data from multiple (>50) ISCO remediation field case studies
Analysis of empirical field data to identify remedial trends, success criteria, data gaps and uncertainties
Controlled and rigorously monitored field and laboratory studies to collect data to gain better understanding of ISCO processes and mechanisms affecting remedial success
Development of a best practice/guidance document for in-situ chemical oxidation applications at petroleum impacted sites
